Introduction

In last two decades, NICMAR has become a very well known name in the field of Construction Management and Research in India and Abroad and added value to the business process by carrying out consultancy, research and training for the eminent construction companies. Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) is one of the organizations who have entrusted NICMAR to carry out surveys of Construction Industry. The last survey brought out Directory of Construction Equipment 2001. This was found very useful by Users (Construction & Mining firms) and Clients.

(BMTPC) has again commissioned NICMAR to survey the Construction Equipment Industry and bring out a revised and up dated Directory. This will be the 3rd revision that NICMAR shall be doing for BMTPC.

The study requires inputs from End users, Manufacturers and Construction Industry as a whole, about.

-Mechanization and Equipment needs

-Current availability of Equipment

-Future Requirements of Equipment.

As a part of this study an exhaustive and updated Construction Equipment Directory will also be created.

About NICMAR
National Institute of Construction and Management and Research (NICNAR) has been established in 1986 as a Trust by major Construction organizations in the country. Our flagship 2 year's post graduate course for graduate engineers "Advanced Construction Management (ACM)" is highly successful. NICMAR also undertakes Executive and Distance education. It is recognized as a SIRO by Govt. of India. Research, Consultancy and training have been the core activities of NICMAR.
About BMTPC
Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) is an Organisation of Govt. of India to promote Research & use of new Technology in all areas related to Construction. Many construction firms, Engineering Institutes, Various Departments of Central/State governments are associated.
Details of the Survey
In the present Survey some new aspects are being studied. One is to better understand the Construction & Mining Industry's perception about Equipment and their expectations. We also plan to take up the common concerns and problem with Equipment Manufacturers and Government in appropriate forums. Other aspects are status of Ancillary Manufacturing industry and Import of Construction Equipment. The Data envisaged is mainly about selection process and future demand.
The proposed contents of the Survey and Directory are as follows:

1. Index - By Manufacturers and By Products (Equipments).
2. Foreign Manufacturers-Address, country, models, prices, service/ spares organization, Indian Agents/Branches.
3. Importers- Organization, turnover constraint, need prospects etc.
4. Indian Mfrs-(Dealers, Branches, Factory locations) Address, models, Installed capacity, Production for 3 years, Financing, prices Collaboration JV, service.
5. Indian Ancillary Mfrs. - OEM details, Factory, Dealers.

3. We are planning to include Construction Equipment Manufacturers from USA, EU and South Asia. We are working on Reciprocal arrangement with Associations so that they include Indian Manufacturers in their publications etc. As you must be aware of increasing entry of foreign Construction & Mining firms in India, such an exhaustive Directory shall make them aware of Indian capability.
