  • Students will have to repeat failed subjects upon payment of the requisite fees during the following year.

Calculation of SGPA & CGPA

Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

Calculation of SGPA

The SGPA is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all courses, projects, practicals, etc. taken during the semester. Suppose a student has n courses with credits C1..n and grade points G1..n.

Formula
SGPA = ( C1+C2++Cn )
SGPA = (C1×G1 + C2×G2 + ... + Cn×Gn) / (C1 + C2 + ... + Cn)
  • Final letter grades considered: O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P, F.
  • Non-credit courses are graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory.
  • SGPA is calculated up to two decimal places.
Calculation of CGPA

CGPA is computed over multiple semesters using the semester credits and their respective SGPAs. Suppose credits for semesters 1..m are C1..m and the SGPAs are SGPA1..m.

Formula
CGPA = ( C1+C2++Cm )
CGPA = (C1×SGPA1 + C2×SGPA2 + ... + Cm×SGPAm) / (C1 + C2 + ... + Cm)

Note: SGPA/CGPA are awarded when the student has passed all the courses considered in the computation.

Conversion: CGPA to Percentage of Marks

NICMAR University of Construction Studies follows the conversion:

Formula
Marks in Percentage = 9.5 × CGPA

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)

Flexibility & Credit Mobility

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is an academic service mechanism established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a digital/virtual/online entity to facilitate students in becoming academic account holders. This system enables seamless mobility between or within degree-granting Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through credit recognition, accumulation, transfer, and redemption—promoting distributed and flexible teaching–learning.

ABC functions like a bank for academic purposes, modeled on commercial banks for financial purposes. Students are the account holders and ABC provides them with services such as credit verification, accumulation, transfer, redemption, and authentication of academic awards.

Features of ABC
  • Registration for a unique ABC ID (shareable across institutions)
  • Viewing of total credits accumulated under one window
  • Selection of multiple credits for transfer or redemption
  • Tracking the status of transfer requests
  • Reinitiating credit transfer at the student’s convenience
Benefits of ABC
  • Greater freedom in choosing courses and academics
  • Option to drop out anytime and redeem earned credits for a certificate/diploma
  • Redeem credits later to rejoin the same or another institution
  • Prevents institutions from forcing students to stay enrolled for revenue
  • Enables institutions to upload credits against a student’s ABC ID on DigiLocker – National Academic Depository
