Established as an autonomous, non-government, not-for-profit academic body, NICMAR was founded in September, 1983 as a Society and a Public Charitable Trust.

Meet our Chancellor

Mr. Ajit Gulabchand

Mr. Ajit Gulabchand is the Chairman of the Board of Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC). He served as Chairman & Managing Director of HCC for the past four decades till 2023. During this tenure, he transformed the company from a construction major into a diversified infrastructure group of a global scale, developing and building responsible infrastructure through the next practices. With a group turnover of over Rs. 10,670 Cr (US$ 1.415 billion), HCC’s businesses span across engineering & construction and infrastructure.
Mr. Gulabchand hails from a family of nation builders who has made a significant contribution to the development of modern India. A graduate of Mumbai University, Mr. Gulabchand previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Indian Hume Pipe Co. and Managing Director of Ravalgaon Sugar Farm. He became Managing Director of HCC in 1983 and Chairman in 1994.
Under Mr. Gulabchand’s leadership, HCC continues the illustrious tradition set by his predecessors. The group has a knowledge asset of more than 1,700 officers, including around 1,100 engineers. In addition, it employs about 13,000 workers at its project sites across India. The result is a business that plays a leading role in Meeting the massive infrastructure needs of India, leveraging best-in-class equipment and technology, knowledge-driven processes and innovation-led next practices.
The HCC Group of companies comprise HCC Limited, HCC Infrastructure Limited and Steiner AG in Switzerland.

Meet our Vice Chancellor

Dr. Shrikant Charhate

Dr. Shrikant Charhate is a distinguished academic leader and researcher with over 37 years of experience in institution building, academics, and research. A Ph.D. from IIT Bombay, he specializes in soft computing applications in water resources, ocean studies, and construction management.
A transformative educationist, Dr. Charhate has served in senior leadership roles across reputed academic institutions and corporate, including Professor and Head, Associate Vice President at MNC for International campus at RAK-UAE, Professor and Director, Dean Academics and Pro Vice Chancellor at Amity University Mumbai. His career reflects a consistent commitment to innovation-driven learning, institutional excellence and global collaboration.
Known for his dynamic leadership style, he has encouraged creativity, entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary exploration. Dr. Charhate's academic contributions include over 150 research publications, several patents and funded projects includes an international assignment of AI based traffic management study for bullet train project. He also serves as an honorary advisor to leading Mumbai-based enterprises, driving collaboration where academic insight meets real-world innovation and strategic growth.
A recipient of the Best Teacher Award (University of Mumbai, 2018), the ABP News National Education Award (2017), and the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Construction Excellence Award (2011), Dr. Charhate has also represented India at leading international platforms in Canada, France, China, South Korea, Malaysia and New Zealand. He has guided numerous Ph.D. and M Tech scholars and delivered keynote addresses across global academic forums.
Dr. Charhate envisions building institutions that are technology-empowered, innovation-led, and globally networked fostering talent capable of shaping the future through research, digital transformation and sustainable design thinking.
