Semester I – Foundation & Core Skills

This semester builds the fundamental competencies required for quantity surveying and contract management. Learners are introduced to measurement standards, tendering processes, engineering specifications, and leadership skills. The focus is on developing a strong technical base and understanding the role of QS in project documentation and cost control.The first semester lays the foundation for the programme by introducing the concepts of projects, project lifecycle, project development, construction technology, tendering and bidding.

  • Fundamentals of Quantity Surveying & Measurement

    Learn measurement standards (IS 1200, CESMM, NRM) and BOQ preparation for civil, structural, and MEP works. Emphasis on linking BOQs with contracts and avoiding errors in measurement.

  • Procurement and Tendering

    Covers tendering frameworks, bid strategies, and evaluation methods. Includes e-tendering, reverse auctions, and sustainability in procurement.

  • Engineering Specifications

    Focuses on BIS codes and MoRTH specifications for materials and workmanship. Teaches specification writing and ISO quality standards.

  • Quantity Surveying Workshop – I

    Practical training in interpreting drawings and extracting quantities. Includes BOQ development for civil and MEP works using standard methods.

  • Rate Analysis and Cost Estimation

    Teaches rate build-up and cost estimation for buildings, infrastructure, and MEP works. Includes lifecycle costing and value engineering.

  • Project Management

  • EQS 207 – Capstone Project – I

    Students define project objectives, conduct literature review, and develop methodology. Culminates in a proposal presentation.

Semester III – Advanced Tools, Valuation & Dispute Resolution

This semester focuses on advanced applications, including software tools, valuation techniques, and dispute resolution. Learners gain exposure to FIDIC contracts, arbitration, and estimation software like Candy and CalQuan. The final capstone project consolidates learning through real-world application and management.

    Covers FIDIC contracts, claims management, and delay analysis. Includes arbitration practice, dispute boards, and simulation exercises.

  • Estimation Software (Candy & CalQuan)

    Hands-on training in Candy CCS for estimation and CalQuan for road/linear projects. Includes resource analysis, subcontractor adjudication, and 3D modeling.

  • Quantity Surveying Workshop – II

    Advanced quantity take-offs for infrastructure projects. Includes bidding document preparation, subcontract drafting, and mock arbitration.

  • Valuation of Properties and Machinery

    Teaches valuation methods for real estate and machinery. Covers market, income, and cost approaches, depreciation, and report writing.

  • Advanced Planning Software (Excel & Primavera)

    Develops skills in Primavera P6 and Excel for planning and scheduling. Includes WBS creation, resource assignment, and project tracking.

Dr. K V Prasad, Head-Executive Education

An alumnus of NICMAR, with a Master’s degree (By Research) & PhD in Lean Construction Management from the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), has over 17 years of professional experience and is passionate about imparting quality education. His interest areas include Project Risk Management, Public-Private Partnerships, Estimation, Mass Rapid Transit Systems, Lean Construction Management, Building Information Modeling and Digitization, Special Construction Methods etc.

Prior to joining NICMAR in 2020, he was associated with Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) for nearly 13 years. He has published several research papers in various journals of repute, and also has authored a book – “Building Big: Art of Passionately Delivering World Class Infrastructure Projects”.

  • How are the assessments conducted?

    Assessments are conducted through a mix of assignments, case studies, quizzes, presentations, and project work. Continuous evaluation ensures participants can apply concepts to real-world scenarios and demonstrate professional competency. Semester end examinations shall be in physical mode held at NICMAR University of Construction Studies.

  • Is there a campus immersion component in the programme?

    Yes. The programme includes a campus immersion (once in a year) module to provide participants with hands-on learning, peer interactions, and direct engagement with faculty and industry experts. During this period, participants attend workshops, case discussions, simulations, and project activities on campus. This immersive experience helps develop practical skills, networking, and a deeper understanding of complex project scenarios.

  • What are the class timings?

    The classes are conducted on Sundays at campus, usually from 9 am to 5 pm.

  • What happens when I miss a class? Can I get in touch with the faculty?

    Participants are encouraged to reach out to the faculty for clarifications or guidance during designated consultation hours or via email. The programme promotes continuous engagement and ensures that learning support is available even outside classroom sessions.

  • How are the course materials provided?

    The respective faculty teaching a course shall send soft copies of lecture materials, case studies, papers, and presentations by e-mail and/or upload the same in the learning management system portal. No hard copies of the material shall be provided/couriered.

  • Is there any placement assistance for the program?

    This programme is designed to upskill working professionals, enhance their domain expertise, and enable them to explore alternative or advanced career paths within the industry. As it focuses on professional development rather than campus recruitment, formal placement assistance is not provided. However, participants may benefit from networking opportunities and industry interactions during the programme.

  • Will the participants be considered as NICMAR Alumni and can they visit the campus?

    Upon successfully completing the programme, the participants shall be considered the Executive Alumni of NICMAR Hyderabad and can visit the campus with the ID card provided at any time.
