We're pleased to announce that Prof. Seshadri Sekhar Tirumala, our faculty from NICMAR Hyderabad Campus has been granted patent for research area "Apparatus and Method for Pulverising Used Foundry Sand".

The object of the present invention is to provide a high strength concrete produced from a mineral admixture based on used foundry sand and the process for the production of the mineral admixture.

The present invention relates to a high strength concrete produced using a mineral admixture based on used foundry sand and the process for the preparation of the mineral admixture. The pulverised used foundry sand is prepared using mechanical pulverisers and the mineral admixture from pulverized used foundry sand is characterized by the particle size less than 90 microns. The chemical composition of mineral admixtures contains silicon dioxide (SiO2) greater than about 80% by weight, alkalis (Na2O) less than about 1.50% by weight, loss on ignition less than about 4.0% by weight and moisture content less than about 3.0% by weight.

The obtained mineral admixture based on pulverized used foundry sand is free from iron or steel particles and also contains SiO2 at its maximum providing strength and durability to concrete. The present invention reduces the silica fume consumption and cement consumption to a greater extent.
