On 26 November 2025, NICMAR University, Pune donated computer
systems to the Khadki Education Society’s ‘Gulbai Muluk Irani Kanya
Shala’ for supporting the cause of girls’ education. The computers
were donated to establish a computer lab in the school. This
activity was done as a part of University’s community connect
initiative. The handover programme was organised in the main
auditorium of the Society. The event was graced by Dr. Sushma
Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, NICMAR University; Prof. Dr. Kirti
Rajhans, Dr. Vijaya Desai, and Dr. Jyotish Singh; Mrs. Priti
Shirode, Trustee of the Phulora Foundation; Mr. Anant Chhajed,
Secretary of the Khadki Education Society; Mr. Chakne, Assistant
Secretary; Prof. Ghadge, Principal of Alegaonkar College; Mrs.
Chapate, Headmistress of G.M.I. Girls’ School; and several students.
The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by Vice Chancellor
Dr. Sushma Kulkarni, her accompanying faculty members, and Phulora
Trustee Mrs. Priti Shirode. This was followed by the welcome address
delivered by Principal Mr. Ghadge. Secretary Mr. Anant Chhajed
shared information about the school and the Khadki Education
Society. He also expressed sincere gratitude toward NICMAR
University, the Vice Chancellor, and the faculty team, and hoped for
continued collaboration. Assistant Secretary Mr. Chakne briefed the
audience about the various initiatives undertaken by the Society. He
also highlighted the Society’s upgraded laboratories and its
dedicated FM Radio station.
Dr. Sushma Kulkarni then interacted with the students and staff,
sharing her valuable insights. She emphasized that along with
theoretical learning, in-depth knowledge of computers is essential
in today’s era. She provided detailed guidance on the effective use
of the Internet for academic purposes. Dr. Kulkarni announced that
students from NICMAR University would regularly visit the schools
under the Khadki Education Society to teach computer skills and
English language through the Fhulora Foundation. She assured that
NICMAR University would continue to support the institution.
She further engaged with the students through a question-and-answer
session, asking what they had learned so far and what more they
wished to learn. She reaffirmed that NICMAR University would provide
full support. Dr. Kulkarni also visited the laboratories and
reviewed the functioning of various facilities. She also gave a
small message on the community radio. The vote of thanks was
proposed by Mrs. Chapate.
As part of the ‘Swastha Nari Sashakta Pariwar’ initiative, NICMAR University Pune's Internal Committee for POSH along with ‘Genesis- the Gender Championship Club’, organized ‘Nourish HER: A Women's Health & Nutrition Session’ on 30th September 2025. The session aimed at creating awareness among faculty, staff and students about the importance of nutrition, balanced diet, and lifestyle management for maintaining good health and overall well-being. The program commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Kirti Rajhans Presiding Officer, ICC. The session was delivered by Dr. Priyanka Bandal, Clinical Dietitian and Diabetic Educator, Manipal Hospital, Pune. Dr. Bandal highlighted how proper dietary habits contribute not only to physical fitness but also to improved concentration, energy levels, and long-term disease prevention. She discussed essential aspects of nutrition, including the role of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals) in daily diet, the importance of hydration and mindful eating, the effects of unhealthy food practices, such as excessive consumption of processed foods, junk food, and sugary drinks etc. She gave a lot of practical tips for everyone to manage diet despite busy schedules. Overall, the session by Dr. Bandal was really insightful.
Genesis- the Gender Championship Club in association with
Equal Opportunity Cell organized a thought-provoking and
insightful session on "Empowering Youth to Lead Social
Change” which was delivered by Dr. Ranjana Kumari, a
prominent social activist, a TEDx speaker, author and
Director of the Centre for Social Research, Delhi.

Kumari speaks powerfully on issues like gender justice
Dr. Yuvraj Patil. Dr. Sushma Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor,
NICMAR University, Pune delivered the introductory speech,
setting the context of the session. The session emphasized
the vital role of youth in creating a more inclusive,
equitable, and gender-sensitive society.
Dr. Ranjana
Kumari's expert talk highlighted critical issues like,
including gender as a Design Principle in designing urban
spaces, embracing inclusivity in workforce and in
leadership, role of youth in social change etc. Dr. Kumari
challenged the audience to think beyond just building
physical infrastructure, saying “Will you build bridges only
of concrete, or also of equality and dignity?”. She also
gave a strong message on cyber safety and digital dignity.

stalking — report it. "Silence is not a choice on social
media."
Dr. Jyotish Singh coordinated an interactive fireside chat
followed by open forum question and answer session wherein
students actively engaged into meaningful discussion with
the guest speaker. Dr. Ranjana impactfully addressed
questions related to gender roles, youth responsibilities,
mental health, and leadership. Dr. Kirti Rajhans delivered
the vote of thanks outlining the objectives and takeaways of
the session. Dr. Ranjana Kumari's session served as a
wake-up call for young minds to recognize their power to
lead social change. She emphasized the importance of
inclusive thinking, equitable design, and courage to speak
up — both in the real and virtual world.
Before the expert session for students, a special
interaction session was also organized with female faculty
members, members of Internal Committee for POSH and members
of Equal Opportunity Cell. The objective was to interact
with Dr. Ranjan Kumari on concerns related to gender roles,
inclusivity and equal opportunity for all. The session was
coordinated by Dr. Kirti Rajhans.
NICMAR University Pune's Internal Committee for POSH
organized a
Gender Sensitization Training Program for all newly joined
faculty
and staff members on 10th September 2025. The program
commenced with
an inaugural address by Dr. (Mrs.) Sushma Kulkarni, Vice
Chancellor,
NICMAR.
The resource person for Gender Sensitization Training
Program was
Mr. Harish Sadani, Senior Gender Right Professional,
Co-founder and
Executive Director, Men Against Violence and Abuse Mumbai.
Mr. Harish Sadani conducted an interactive hand on workshop
wherein,
he helped the participants to identify the hidden societal
barriers,
perceptual biases and stereotypes which create obstacles for
gender
equality. Through an interactive session, the participants
understood the POSH act provisions and importance of gender
sensitization in organizations.
In the spirit of fostering inclusivity and empowerment and
in line with the UGC theme for this year, ‘Stronger Her,
Fitter Future’, Genesis club and Internal Committee for POSH
of NICMAR University proudly organized a one-day celebration
of International Women’s Day under the theme "United Voices:
Celebrating Diversity”, on 05-03-2025.
The event brought
together creativity, awareness, and collective expression to
honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of men
and women in society. An ‘Open Forum’ and an ‘Open mic’
session was arranged for female faculty and staff members of
the university. The event provided a nice platform for
everyone to share challenges, inspirations and stories which
gave strength and helped to commemorate the indomitable
spirit of womanhood! After this, an event comprising of
drama performance, poetry competition and recitation and
musical performances was organised in the main auditorium
for students, faculty and staff. Dr. Anil Kashyap,
Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune and Dr. Sushma Kulkarni,
Vice Chancellor, guided everyone on this occasion. Students
gave wonderful performances. Prizes were distributed for the
events conducted. The event truly reflected the essence of
"United Voices", bringing together perspectives and talents
to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and progress!
Genesis, the Gender Championship Club of NICMAR
University,
Pune in association with Internal Committee for POSH,
organized an insightful invited talk on "STEM Education
and
Gender", on 17th Feb. 2025, featuring Dr. Vineeta Bal, a
distinguished scientist and immunologist currently
working
as a faculty in IISER, Pune. Dr. Bal was a member of the
Prime Minister's task force for Women in Science under
the
Ministry of Science and Technology and is Chairperson,
BOT
of Nari Samata Manch, Pune. Dr. Bal, a gender equality
expert, discussed the underrepresentation of women in
science in India's top institutions.
She highlighted
the
differences between equality, equity, and justice,
sparking
gender discussions among students, faculty, and staff.
The Genesis Club held a gender equality and inclusivity
poster competition to increase engagement. Students used
their creativity to express their gender issues and
perspectives in a beautiful way.
Pune proudly participated in the launch of the ‘Collective of Real Estate Women (CREW)’ by Godrej Properties Limited. This significant event was held at Hotel Conrad, Pune and saw the enthusiastic participation of 300 females from the construction industry, out of which 34 participants were from NICMAR University, comprising faculty, staff, and students. The participation initiative was undertaken by Genesis, the gender championship club and the Internal Committee for POSH. The initiative was aimed to understand the challenges faced by women in the construction sector and promote gender inclusivity within the industry. Dr. Mrs. Sushma S. Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune was invited as a distinguished panel member for the symposium titled, “Decoding Opportunities to Increase Women's Representation in Real Estate", organised on the launch event of C.R.E.W. This event happened to be the first national initiative dedicated to empowering women in the real estate, construction, and allied industries, with the mission of increasing women's representation at all levels within this sector. The panel discussion featured prominent women leaders from the construction industry. In her address, Dr. Sushma Kulkarni emphasized the pivotal role of academia in the construction sector. She highlighted how academia and industry can mutually benefit from each other through collaboration and knowledge exchange. She also stressed the importance of educating girls about the construction sector from a young age to foster awareness and inclusivity. The Vice Chancellor’s insights resonated with the audience, particularly her views on how academic institutions can contribute to breaking down barriers and encouraging more women to pursue careers in construction. The event was not just a launch but a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in the construction industry. NICMAR University’s active participation and contributions underscored its commitment to gender inclusivity and the advancement of women in the construction sector. 2. Awareness Sessions on Role of Internal Complaints Committee and Gender.
Genesis, the Gender Championship Club and Inter Committee
(for POSH) organized International Women’s Day celebrations
at NICMAR University, Pune on March 8, 2024, to celebrate
the resilience, empowerment, and contribution of women in
all sectors.
A panel discussion with a few distinguished women leaders
was organized on the day. The panellists included Dr. Poonam
Kashyap, Director- Strategy and External Partnerships,
NICMAR, Dr. Sushma Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, NICMAR
University, Pune, and three illustrious NICMAR alumni namely
Mrs. Pallavi Wasule-Salunke, Assistant General Manager –
CBRE, Ms. Jui Yadav –Manager- KEC International, Ms. Ridhi
Agarwal, Co-founder- Hipcouch.
The women leaders discussed the specific challenges
in the industry and also guided the students about how to
overcome barriers and rise to the top!
After this, a Debate Competition was organized for students
which was oriented towards brainstorming challenges of
bringing in harmony and equality in society.
Informal team games were conducted for faculty and staff
members to commemorate the spirit of togetherness, the
importance of supporting each other and coming out of your
comfort zone.
Genesis, a club for gender championship, harmony and inclusivity, was formally launched during the Women’s conclave on 25th Sep. 2023, as per UGC guidelines about gender championship. Considering the fact that it is important to initiate change processes at a young age to shape attitudes and transform behaviours and NICMAR University decided to take the cause of inclusivity and harmony ahead through this club. The main objective of the club is to foster positive social interactions in the university, which advocate that all genders are equally respected and valued. Dr. Kirti Rajhans spoke about the vision of the club to support the overall well-being of students and achieve long-term and sustainable social change. Five students were appointed as gender champions of the NICMAR University who will facilitate various activities of the club and take the cause of inclusivity and harmony ahead.
An Industry Academia Conclave titled, “Inspirational Women Leaders"
was organised on 25th Sep. 2023 in collaboration with ICC, Women In
Construction (WIC) forum and Genesis- the Gender Championship Club,
at NICMAR University along with IFEES and GEDC.
Eminent women leaders from industry and academia participated in the
conclave. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Tarita Shankar,
Chair Person and Chief Mentor, Indira Group of Institutes. She in
her speech, highlighted the importance of being strong and
confident, understanding one’s objectives very clearly and taking
care of ourselves to all students aspiring to be leaders in future.
Dr. Sushma Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune spoke
about various initiatives taken by NICMAR University for mentorship
and development of women and also guided the participants about how
to overcome challenges in their professional journey.
During the event, a book “Rising to the Top: Vol. III- Indian Women
Stem Leaders Share Their Journeys to Professional Success” was
launched. The book is published by International Federation of
Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) & Global Engineering Deans
Council (GEDC). The book was launched by the hands of Chief Guest,
Dr. Tarita Shankar, Eminent panellists of the conclave, Vice
Chancellor, NICMAR University and Editor of the book, Dr. Sushma
Kulkarni. Dr. Hans J. Hoyer, Secretary General of IFEES & Executive
Secretary, GEDC, spoke about the book by joining online during the
conclave.
After that, there was an enriching panel discussion on the topic,
‘Breaking Gender Barriers: Challenges and Way Ahead’. The panel
members, Mrs. Mayuri Dhavale, Dr. Tarita Shankar, Dr. Sushma
Kulkarni, Mrs. Archana Srivastava, Dr. Janhavi Inamdar, Dr.
Mrinalini Jadhav, Mrs. Deepali Kulkarni and Dr. Hemlata Gaikwad
participated actively during the panel discussion. Dr. Kirti Rajhans
moderated the panel discussion and facilitated an insightful
discussion about how to break the glass ceiling, overcome gender
barriers and the way forward for young professionals who are
aspiring to go into the leadership roles. The conclave was attended
by around 900 students including NICMAR students and students from
various Engineering colleges in Pune.
With the spirit of celebrating the success, resilience and
empowerment of women, the Internal Committee (for POSH)
organised the International Women's Day celebrations at
NICMAR University, Pune, on 8 th March, 2023.
Along with celebrations, the agenda of the program also
included launching a niche forum, Women In Construction
(WIC), an initiative supported by NICMAR University. Women
have traditionally been underrepresented in the construction
industry, but there is a growing movement to increase gender
diversity and encourage more women to pursue careers in
construction. The Women In Construction (WIC) -
Forum aims to provide an inclusive outreach platform where
women across construction industry and allied areas, can
brainstorm ideas, share knowledge on different aspects and
issues of industry, discuss the problems faced in their
respective careers, seek guidance and support each other.
Dr Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor of NICMAR
University launched the “Women in Construction” forum and
deliberated on its objectives and relevance.
The event
was
graced by a panel of distinguished women including Ms. Gauri
Kanade, AGM, TATA Projects, Ms. Priyanka Dandge, Senior
Manager-Business Development, Spectrum Techno Consultants
and Ms. Kavita Krishnamurthy Singh, Founder and Director,
HeadOverHeels and HR Director, Honeycomb Engineering Private
Limited, who shared their insights and experiences as women
in the construction industry.
This was followed by an insightful quiz game celebrating the
women achievers of India. In the end, Dr. Poonam Kashyap
conducted an exciting outdoor game for all the participants.
Gifts and prizes were also distributed. Faculty and staff
followed the dress colour code of yellow to celebrate the
day with zest and vibrance.
The Internal Committee (IC) for POSH, organized a gender sensitization program, ‘Harmony: A dialogue on Diversity and Inclusivity’, for students of NICMAR University, on 25th January 2023. The speaker for this session was Dr. Gopa Samanta, Professor and Head Dept. of Geography at Burdwan University. She began her talk by elaborating on the importance of having more women in construction management, architecture and planning and the need for a dialogue about inclusivity and diversity. She discussed the concept of femininity and masculinity and its burden on people through behavioural norms and codes. She highlighted the need of awareness and frequent dialogues on gender sensitization and inclusivity. The event initiated a dialogue amongst students and faculty about gender issues and involved several question-answers and discussion after the talk.
Webinar @Pune NICMAR Centre for Continuing Professional Development (CCPD) organized a webinar on the topic, “Achieving Stillness Amidst Chaos- Secret and Practical Ways of Stress-Free Living for Academics”, on Tuesday, 19th July, 2022. The faculty members of NICMAR, Pune and Hyderabad attended it in an online and offline mode both. The resource persons for this webinar were: Dr. Tanusree Chakraborty, Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, IIT, Delhi and Dr. Suvinoy Das, Professor, IISC, Bangalore. They lucidly explained and demonstrated the ancient meditation and related practices for overcoming day to day stress and achieving peace. The session was conducted in a highly interactive and engaging manner and was well received by all faculty members.
NICMAR Centre for Continuing Professional Development
organized a webinar for faculty members of all NICMAR
campuses on one of the most relevant pedagogical concerns in
today’s educational environment,
“How do we engage in the online world? A few
experiences” on 18th February, 2022. Dr. Pradeep Racherla,
Professor of Marketing and Program Director Mahindra
University, School of Management, Hyderabad, delivered this
engaging session.
