Nurturing Ideas and Shaping the Built Environment of Tomorrow!!

May 2026, Volume 4, No. 5
Centre for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (CEI), NUP: From Ideas to Impact

In an era where innovation defines economic leadership, entrepreneurship is no longer optional, it is essential. The Centre for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (CEI) at NICMAR University, Pune (NUP) has emerged as a transformative platform, nurturing entrepreneurial talent within the built environment and beyond.

CEI represents a shift in higher education from traditional, placement-driven outcomes to an innovation-led ecosystem where students are encouraged to create value, build enterprises, and solve real-world challenges. Acting as a bridge between academia, industry, and capital, the Centre enables ideas to evolve into scalable and sustainable ventures.

A defining feature of CEI is the Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Venture (IEV) Project, integrated into MBA programs across all schools at NUP. Unlike conventional research projects, IEV enables students to develop market-ready business models, build prototypes, and transition from ideation to Startup creation.

Structured across three semesters, ideation, prototyping, and venture creation, the program provides a hands-on entrepreneurial journey aligned with national frameworks such as NISP and AICTE Startup Policy. It marks a critical shift from knowledge acquisition to value creation.

CEI has institutionalized a systematic pathway that takes ideas through stages of screening, mentorship, business planning, pitching, funding, and incubation. This structured approach ensures that entrepreneurship is not incidental, but designed, mentored, and outcome-driven.

A key enabler of this ecosystem is CEI’s pre-seed funding framework, offering ₹1–2 lakh per Startup to support early-stage development. This funding facilitates prototype creation, intellectual property protection, and market validation. With milestone-based monitoring and mandatory company formation, CEI insures transparency, accountability, and investment readiness.

The impact of CEI’s initiatives is evident in its recent outcomes (AY 2024–2026):

  • 29 student venture teams formed
  • 78 students actively engaged
  • 10 ventures incubated and 7 Startups registered
  • ₹9.14 lakh+ pre-seed funding sanctioned

More significantly, the number of students aspiring to become entrepreneurs has increased sharply, reflecting a strong cultural shift within the university.

CEI’s ventures are deeply aligned with industry needs, particularly in Construction Technology, Design, and Sustainability. Innovations include AI-driven diagnostics in construction, BIM and cloud-based platforms, labour aggregation systems, and sustainable development solutions. This sector-focused approach ensures that innovation is practical, scalable, and impactful.

The most significant contribution of CEI lies in transforming mindsets. Students are evolving from job seekers to job creators, and entrepreneurship is becoming a mainstream career pathway. Through mentorship, industry engagement, and experiential learning, CEI has embedded innovation into the institutional DNA of NUP.

CEI aims to scale its impact through stronger industry partnerships, enhanced incubation programs, and global collaborations. Its vision is to position NUP as a leading hub for entrepreneurship in the built environment sector.

“Entrepreneurship at CEI is not taught as a subject; it is experienced as a journey from idea to impact.”
