Inspired by the vision of Digital India and NEP 2020 towards providing a holistic learning environment to the digital natives of this century, NICMAR University (NU) has undertaken major initiatives that leverage the strengths of knowledge with the adoption of digital technologies. NU has always been the forerunner in the adoption of cutting-edge curricula and technology in line with evolving times and the aspirational needs of the learning community.

NU Pune campus boasts of well-equipped computer labs with the latest application software that has immense relevance for the Construction and Projects sector like Microsoft Project Management, Oracle suite of Project Management packages including Contract Management, Autodesk suite of Building Information Modelling comprising 24 software products including, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks etc.; Project Wise 365 and 15 software products from Bentley Systems India Pvt. The University also houses a state-of-the-art AR and VR (Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality) studio where students get a real-time understanding and learning of various concepts augmenting their knowledge spectrum. To enhance and align the entire learning community of faculty and students, a Learning Management System (LMS) has been initiated that provides seamless integration of courses, learning materials, and continuous evaluations through an interactive platform. Alongside other benefits like a fully WiFi-enabled campus, robust data security, seamless email service, networks, and storage through Microsoft Teams add to the aspect of creating a digitally enabled learning environment.

NICMAR University also ensures that off-campus students belonging to our weekend programs and other open house programs reap the benefits of digital learning through online learning platforms hosted by Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex. This ensures that real-time learning reaches the farthest corners of the nation, including remote construction and project sites wherein many of our off-campus students are dedicatedly engaged in advancing their knowledge while pursuing their careers.

NICMAR University received a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ at the Edutech 100 Summit 'Digital Distinction: Technology Conformance to NEP' organized by ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), New Delhi on 14th December 2022. The chief guest for the function was the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Lt. Governor of Puducherry Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.


Patent Grant Certificate

A patent has been granted to Prof. Seshadri Sekhar Tirumala, (faculty member of NICMAR, Hyderabad) for an invention entitled "Apparatus and Method for Pulverising Used Foundry Sand" for the term of 20 years by the Patent Office, Government of India.

Happenings at NICMAR

Indian Lean Construction Conference (ILCC 2022) @Hyderabad

The 5th Indian Lean Construction Conference (2022) was organized by the National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR) in collaboration with the Institute for Lean Construction Excellence (ILCE) at NICMAR Hyderabad Campus from 13th to 16th December, 2022. The 4-day event comprised of a Workshop Day for students and professionals, Industry Collaboration and Engagements Day, and Conference presentations. The overarching theme was Sustaining Lean in Construction with People and Technology.


The event was inaugurated by Dr Anil Kashyap, Director General, NICMAR; Mr. Anup Mathew, Sr. Vice President, Godrej; Mr. Navin Mittal (IAS) Commissioner of Technical and Collegiate Education, Government of Telangana along with Dr Koshy Varghese, Professor and Dean Academics, IIT Madras. The gathering had more than 120 registered delegates and more than 80 participants from the industry.

The key note addresses were given by Prof. N. Raghavan, Professor, IIT Madras; Mr. Sharique Khan, Project Manager, Turner International LLC; Mr. Jayadatta V Lad, AGM, Afcons Infrastructure Ltd; Mr. Karun Raj Singh Sareen, Partner Major Projects Advisory, KPMG-India; Dr Bhargav Dave, Founder and CEO VisiLean Ltd (Oy); Mr. Sabarinath C Nair, Co-Founder CEO, SkillVeri Training Solutions Pvt Ltd; Mr. Naveen Mittal IAS., Commissioner of Technical and Collegiate Education, Govt of Telangana; Mr. Ramamoorthy Rajendran, Director, DigitalBuild, Singapore; Dr Glenn Ballard, Director, Project Productions Systems Laboratory at the University of California Berkeley; and Dr Koshy Varghese, Professor, IIT Madras and Director ILCE. The invited speakers were Col. Dr Pawan Pandey, Director (Technical), Married Accommodation Project Indian Army; Ms. Durga Saripally, Co-Founder, Vconstruct Pune; Mr. C. Devarajan, Managing Director, URCL, Chairman & Managing Director, Tactive Software Systems and Director ILCE, and Dr Ashwin Mahalingam, Professor, IIT Madras.

The Industry Collaboration and Engagements Day witnessed the participation of stalwarts like Mr. Anup Mathew, Sr. Vice President, Godrej, Dr Koshy Varghese, Professor and Dean Academic, IIT Madras, Prof. N. They presented the latest technological developments related to Lean implementation in construction, the challenges involved and their own experience with Lean technologies and processes. Experts from the industry and academia also engaged in panel discussions on “How to Improve Teaching Lean Construction?, Tangible and Intangible Benefits of Lean Construction Implementation, and Lean and Digital Construction” and “Technology's role in effective lean implementation and Challenges from people for successful implementation”.

There were 42 papers presentations in the conference that showcased various aspects of innovations researched in the field of Lean Construction. The Workshop gave the students and lean enthusiasts hands-on experience in AR/VR, Lean, and BIM and the people and culture associated with Lean. More than 120 students from universities across India and working professionals in various industries participated in the event.

The Lean Project Competition, a rolling trophy event, witnessed enthusiastic participation from both the industry and academia. Turner Project Management was the winner in the industry category with Godrej Project Management and L&T Construction being the first and the second runners-up respectively.

Implementing NEP 2020 - Faculty Development Program @Pune

NICMAR University, Pune is dedicatedly taking significant steps towards implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In this regard, the university has set up an Academic Practice Directorate (APD) with a vision to create a unified set of values and beliefs which drive the development of a high-performing and inclusive teaching culture and an empowering learning experience for NICMAR University students. 

The APD will function in line with the vision and mission of NICMAR University and the policy guidelines of NEP, 2020. A well-trained teacher can create a positive and impactful learning environment for multiple students, is the main idea behind formation of APD.

Beginning with its activities, ‘The Academic Practice Directorate’, organized a Faculty Development Program, on "Innovative Practices in Teaching and Learning ", on 29th Dec. 2022. The resource person for this FDP was Dr. Briju Thankachan. Dr. Thankachan earned his Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Ohio University, USA, and is currently serving as the Executive Director of EdTech Society and a Visiting Faculty at the Interdisciplinary Program in Educational Technology (IDP-ET) in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India.

The FDP gave a hands-on experience to NICMAR University faculty about implementing flipped classroom initiatives in a practical way. The session was especially focused on Team-Based Learning (TBL) as a pedagogical tool of innovative classroom interventions. The event was a great learning experience as there was a valuable exchange of thoughts which motivated everyone to take a step further in reinventing their own pedagogy practices.

Software Training Program @Pune

A training program on CalQuan software was conducted in the School of Construction from 19th to 22nd December 2022. The program was attended by faculty members from the School of Construction. The objective of the program was to train the faculty members on estimation software, which is a part of the curriculum in the MBA-ACM and PGD-QSCM programs.

Industry Talk @Hyderabad

The School of Construction and Technology organized a hands-on session of Hilti India for the students of all programs on 21st and 28th December 2022. The hands-on session was on Hilti’s Profis Engineering cloud-based platform for which Hilti gave life-long access to the students and faculty members. The session brought actual cases/examples towards design of anchors and plates for concrete-concrete and concrete-steel connections.

Faculty and Staff Achievements/Awards

Dr Rajni Kant Rajhans was invited to chair the finance track of the 'International Conference on Business, IT and Enterprise Architecture (ICBIT)' organized by MDI, Murshidabad. 

Dr Rajni Kant Rajhans received an invitation to write an editorial for the forthcoming issue of the journal "Environmental Research, Engineering and Management" (a Scopus-Indexed Journal) on the theme "Green Bond Markets in Emerging Economies".

Dr. J.S.Sudarsan (School of Energy and Environment) is registered as a Life Member with Green ThinkerZ™ Society.

Dr. J. S. Sudarsan was awarded “Safety Hero 2022” under the Senior Safety Professional Award category by the GD Goenka University, India.

Dr P. K. Samanta Co-Chaired a Technical Session at the 73rd All India Commerce Conference of Indian Commerce Association and International Seminar on "India's March Towards $5 Trillion Economy by 2024" held at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra during December 22-24, 2022.

- The Paper titled "A Study on the Behavioural Aspects contributing to Lean Transformation in Indian Construction Industry" by Dr. V. Pramadha, Prof. K. V. Prasad, and Dr. R. Venkatesan was adjudged as the First Runner-Up for "Best Paper Award " in ILCC 2022

Mr. Ganesh Pande (Staff) won medals for completing different cycling events organized by AUDAX INDIA RANDONNEURS.

Executive Education Programs

Executive Post Graduate Program in Essentials of Infrastructure and Construction Management (EICM)

Larson and Toubro (L&T) engineers participants of the Executive Post Graduate Program in Essentials of Infrastructure and Construction Management (EICM) batch were introduced to NICMAR University’s AR/VR Lab facility during the sessions on ‘Disruptive Technologies in Construction 4.0’ by Dr Sagar Malsane (Subject faculty).

Participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience of carrying out construction-related experiments in a virtual world and appreciated the benefits attached in terms of cost saving and ensuring a safe environment.

ILCC 2022 Rolling Trophy

NICMAR Pune students Himank Chawla (PGP-ACM), Aman Ashish (PGP-PEM), Ujan Sengupta (PGP-PEM) and Jyoti Jain (PGP-ACM) won the ILCC 2022 Rolling Trophy for their project "Developing a generic framework for proactive mitigation of 'Defect' and 'Waiting' Lean waste". It was guided by Dr Shobha Ramalingam, NICMAR University Pune along with Industry partners - Mr. Jayadatta Lad, Mr. Manish Mokal, Mr. Gururaju Pokkunuri and Mr. Yadhnesh Udhas from Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.

Students Kausik Naramsetty, Vaddadi Venkata Sai Krishna Teja, K Pavan Kalyan, Dwarapureddy Madhur Maharshi, Yata Raj Sandeep of PGP-ACM of NICMAR Pune, were declared winners of Lean Project Competition in ILCC 2022 for their project on “Minimizing transportation waste in construction industry” guided by Dr Avinash Bagul.

NICMAR, Hyderabad Placements stand at 66.93% for the ACM and PEM (2-year programs) and 34.33% of QSCM and HSEM (1-year programs) placements have been completed. The placement process for one-year programs commenced from 1st December, 2022.
